Auditions
All our productions are auditioned. The following are some notes that you may find helpful:
- ZCC auditions are usually held 3 months in advance of a production on a Monday at St Andrews' Community Centre.
- Auditions are announced on Monday Club evenings. These are often at quite short notice as auditions follow play selection.
- ZCC auditions are 'public'. This means that there is an audience (usually small) of members viewing the auditions.
- We ask that this audience is silent both during and after each audition.
- Generally only people with a clear and correct English diction without strong accent can expect to audition successfully. It is rare that there are parts for non-native speakers.
- There is a casting panel, which includes the director of the play. They make the decisions.
- The casting panel's decision is final and while the best candidate may not always be chosen, decisions are made for more reasons than just the audition performance. For example, there are questions of how each candidate will fit into the whole cast.
- Candidates are normally informed of the results within two days of auditions.
- ZCC auditions are open to non-members. However, please be aware that due to their previous experience, existing members may have priority. All members of a cast are expected to become ZCC members if they are not already members.
- Audition pieces are usually available a week in advance at our Monday Club evenings and to download from this website.
- Candidates are not expected to learn the audition piece, but naturally it is expected they be familiar with it.
- The ZCC is an amateur group and none of the cast is paid.
- If cast you should be aware that rehearsals and performances require total commitment.
- Candidates should download, print and complete an audition application form [PDF format see button below] and hand it in at the audition.
