Set Design
The "set", that is to say the immoveable part of the design on stage, plays a vital role in the presentation and eventual success of a play. The style and effectiveness of the set influences how the audience perceives a play and is an important part of every play that needs to be resolved early on.
The Zurich Comedy Club has been able to draw on the design talents of some of its members over the years to design and then construct our sets.
Below you will see the initial rough sketch that Set Designer Firman Burke drew for the play "Ghost Writer" and, below that, the final set with the lighting effect as it appeared in the opening scene of the play.
Naturally there are restrictions as what can be used in a stage set, budgets
being just one. The Set Designer will read the play and then discuss the whole
concept with the Director and Stage Manager. When agreement is reached, more elaborate plans
are drawn so that the work of actually building and painting the set can begin.
