The meaning of our name has changed somewhat since the Comedy Club was formed in 1954, long before the concept of present-day stand-up comedy, which we are not. We are a 100% amateur, 100% self-funded group performing all kinds of theatre - predominantly, but by no means exclusively, comedy.
We perform at least two public productions for two weeks in May and November each year. Plus other performances at other venues. To improve our 'product', we run regular workshops for members. We sponsor members at NODA Summer School in the UK (The National Operatic and Dramatic Association, the main representative body for amateur theatre in the UK).
Neither the Club's President nor anyone else serving on the Committee is paid for their services and all actors, directors and stage hands give of their time and efforts without charge.
Although we do not set an minimum age limit, due to the times we meet and the type of plays we perform, it is unlikely that our Club will be of interest to those under 18 years.
Throughout its history the Club has remained 100% self-financing. With the exception of advertisements in our programmes, the Zurich Comedy Club has no outside support or sponsorship. Since its founding in 1954, the Club has donated over CHF350,000 to charities, much of this over the last 20 years.
